How to change impeller on evenrud outboard motor?

On my 70 hp, all I have to do is pull a cotter pin and unscrew the king nut. Once it's off I just pull the impeller straight off. It's a piece of cake! How to change impeller on evenrud outboard motor?Ronald P. is asking of impeller, not propeller.

How to change impeller on evenrud outboard motor?ther may be a spinner cap that un screws and it may be left hand threads then you should see there is a cotter pin to remove

then a nut and maybe a washer

the prop may be tapped off with a rubber hammer

if it is really rusty you may need a puller

good luckHow to change impeller on evenrud outboard motor? You have to remove the lower unit. The Impeller is located on the drive shaft and rotates clockwise. When you put on a new one as you push the case down over the impeller turn the drive shaft clockwise so it slide in easy. It good to use a little grease on the rubber ends to help it slide. Below is a link and it show all the parts. The case is the large black up left and has bolts holding in down. If, you going to do this, I would buy a kit with everything as some may be worn, including the plate under the impeller.

Now, to drop the lower unit, I not sure I can explain. I would remove the prop first, just so it out of the way. Shift to reverse and you may need to remove a retaining screw up in the engine that hold the shift rod. Remove the trim tab above the prop and look/mark how it positioned. remove the bolts holding the lower unit and it should be ready to drop. May need to tap on it with a rubber mallet, do not use a metal hammer, though it may work it can crack something. I put it in a vise with towels to pad and then do your thing. Good Luck.

I just hope this all correct, it been a long time I done this. How to change impeller on evenrud outboard motor?be real man!! do you know how many models, types, and styles of evinrude motors are in this world!!!??? you lift it's tail, remove the old one, wipe it good, add talcum, and put a new one on it.How to change impeller on evenrud outboard motor?Your first two answers told how to remove the propeller, not the impeller.

I just changed the impeller (water pump) on my Mariner and the third answer is going to be the one you use.

Remove the lower unit, it is hidden in there and driven by the shaft that runs to the prop unit.

I strongly suggest you try and find a manual for it, I didnt and wish I had. It is not horribly difficult but some technical advice never hurts.

Good Luck. How to change impeller on evenrud outboard motor?Once you remove all the bolts you can find, try to pull the lower unit straight down. If it doesn't come down with little force you need to get some supervision. Forcing it %26amp; breaking anything will cost you more to repair than having a mechanic install the pump to start with.
