I have a 90 merc 45hp motor and lower unit seems to be frozen to power head.?Many times the lower unit shaft is stuck in the powerhead because it was not greased before assembly or its been a long time since it was last pulled apart. Make sure you have all the lower unit nuts and bolts off (don't forget the bolt under the trim zinc) and give it a few whacks with a rubber mallet.I have a 90 merc 45hp motor and lower unit seems to be frozen to power head.?you don't have to remove the power head. there should be the obvious bolts/nuts and the one under the torque tab.I have a 90 merc 45hp motor and lower unit seems to be frozen to power head.?There is a bolt in the %26quot;trim Tab%26quot; also. Sometimes a hidden bolt covered by a small plastic plug. Make sure all bolts are out before you break something.

How many bolts did you take out?I have a 90 merc 45hp motor and lower unit seems to be frozen to power head.?I know on my old OMC you used to have to remove the starter to get to the gear shifter pin to remove before she would drop. You need the %26quot;Bible%26quot;, available at any outboard Engine shop.I have a 90 merc 45hp motor and lower unit seems to be frozen to power head.?Hi, if you are sure you have removed all the bolts as per previous answers then it is probably corrosion around the case joint, The only way to overcome this common problem is to heat around the joint with an oxy torch and apply as much force as you dare with a block of wood and a large hammer, basic as this may seem it is about the best way to loosen the joint. If you succeed use lots of grease when reassembling and loosen the joint every couple of years to prevent reocurrence. cheers Pete.I have a 90 merc 45hp motor and lower unit seems to be frozen to power head.?Yes make sure you have all the bolts out. Should you get it apart, when reassembling it is important to grease the shaft splines but -VERY IMPORTANT- do not leave any grease on the top of the shaft. This grease will be trapped on top of the shaft and cause excessive load on the shaft resulting in major problems.I have a 90 merc 45hp motor and lower unit seems to be frozen to power head.?There is a bolt under the cavation plate,Then you must remove the shift lever.,(better not mess with it if you are not a outboard man
