I have a Sears 7.5 hp outboard motor #217.58890, and I need to know how to change the impeller.?

This would be the 7.5 tecumseh or clinton??? (Ted Williams?)

That lower drops right off with it's 2 nuts removed. Now here is the tricky part. You might have a shifter, or at least a neutral.

They made several-- the worst was a clutch dog running on long splines on the top of the drive shaft. It clutched into an identical piece keyed to the crank shaft with a spring to help hold it in gear. SO-- if you drop that lower and hear a rain of parts coming down the exhaust, you will need to pull the power head to put it back together.

The next was a spring wound bendix. It should stay in place and cause you no problems. If any of it follows the drive shaft out the exhaust, then it's broken and you will need to pull the power head to replace it. If unavailable, you can have it welded together and it will be a %26quot;pull and go%26quot;.

Once on the bench, the water pump has 2 little bolts holding it down. The tall water pump has a roll pin holding the impeller, and the small flat pump is actually a mercury pump for their small motor. But that pump came in 2 shaft sizes.

Use lots of grease on the spline and slippery up the new pump.

Don't miss the water tube on installation.I have a Sears 7.5 hp outboard motor #217.58890, and I need to know how to change the impeller.?If you have to ask, take it to a mechanic.
